Proteas
The protea is the national flower of South Africa and one of the oldest flowering plant species on the planet. A large, furry, sculptural bloom that lasts for weeks in a vase and then dries beautifully. At Flowers & Lovers we make bouquets with proteas in Vilnius – solid, exotic, sustainable.
What protea bouquets we make
We use the king protea (Protea cynaroides), “Pink Ice”, “Blushing Bride” and leucadendrons from South African and Portuguese growers. The protea is the centre of the bouquet, while gypsophila, lisianthus, eucalyptus, banksias and amaranths are its entourage. Most of our protea bouquets can be left to dry and kept for months. Every bouquet is wrapped in matte paper and comes with your message.
Caring for proteas
Proteas last 2–3 weeks in a vase. Trim the stems diagonally, remove any leaves that would sit in the water, place them in plenty of clean water and change it every 2–3 days. To dry the bouquet, pour out the water after a week and leave it in the vase.
